Charles Oscar Beers Papers, . 1857-1862

Charles Oscar Beers (1834-1910) was the co-founder of the North Carolina Lumber Company, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. The collection includes pocket diaries, 1857-1860 and 1862, of Charles Oscar Beers and a biography of Beers (typed photocopy) written by Charles Beers Gault, which includes maps, photographs, and some genealogical material. The diaries for 1857-1860 include discussions of Beers's work surveying for the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad and perhaps other railroads. The 1862 diary chiefly relates to Beers's business ventures at Wades Point, Beaufort County, N.C.

Charles Oscar Beers (1834-1910) was the co-founder of the North Carolina Lumber Company, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. Beers was born in Fairfield, Conn., and moved with his family to Oneida County, N.Y., in 1838. In 1857, he began working for the Memphis and Little Rock Railroad. He later started the C. O.
